| SHACKLOG provides a powerful set of tools for those interested in the RSGB’s Islands On The Air (IOTA) programme. The tools allow logging of IOTA references, display of island details, tracking of progress towards awards, printing of reports on islands worked, islands needed, islands accepted by the IOTA checkpoints, etc, and triggering of alarms when DX spots arrive from the DX Cluster containing a needed island. | ||
| The IOTA tools come in three levels, depending on what options are purchased: | ||

| SHACKLOG provides a means of logging IOTA references worked by providing a field for this purpose on the QSL logging screen, as the following screen fragment illustrates: | ||
| Having recorded IOTA references for some of your QSOs, you can then use SHACKLOG’s powerful Log Search and Reporting capability to print tables of islands worked, with what ever other information you require. This is probably adequate for those with a casual interest in IOTA. | ||

| When SHACKLOG is running with the IOTA Directory installed, entry of an island reference into the IOTA field causes SHACKLOG to look up the islands details in the IOTA Directory and display the following information: | ||
| Island reference, prefix, latitude and logitude, and island or island group name. | ||

| Note also in the above screen fragment that there is a separate field for logging the national island award reference, in this case MA-021When using DX Cluster, DX spots arriving containing an IOTA reference will also cause the display of the above information, provided that a QSO is not in the process of being logged or updated. | ||
| SHACKLOG + IOTA Directory + SAM-I | ||
| When SHACKLOG is running with the IOTA Directory installed, and SAM-I is also installed, SHACKLOG is able to check whether an island reference is needed (status is not ‘confirmed’) and display a message accordingly. The message contains the following information: | ||
| Iota reference Status (not worked’, ‘not confirmed’, or ‘confirmed’) Call of station worked/confirmed (unless status is ‘not worked’) |

SHACKLOG can be configured so that when using DX Cluster, DX spots arriving containing an IOTA reference will cause SHACKLOG to check whether the island is needed (status is not ‘confirmed’), and trigger a visual alarm (spot highlighted in inverse video) and/or an audible alarm (IOTA sent in Morse) . This is a great help in improving your IOTA score!
