SHACKLOG is a powerful PC program designed to aid the HF and VHF radio amateur and SWL with the administrative tasks associated with running his/her station. SHACKLOG’s main features are real-time and post-event QSO logging, and extremely powerful, yet easy to use, log analysis and reporting facilities. There are many ancillary functions such as QSL label printing, country status display, rig control (with a suitable rig & interface), import of logs from other software packages (EI5DI SD, G3WGV LOG, NA, TR, LOGEQF etc.), and an interface to CallBook CD-ROMs etc. In addition, on suitable hardware, SHACKLOG enables simultaneous data mode operation in parallel with the logging functions. Optional extras are an on line IOTA directory and an IOTA Awards Manager (SAM-I).REAL-TIME and POST-EVENT QSO LOGGING features include:
COUNTRY STATUS – displays table of band vs. mode vs. worked/confirmed status for the country. Allows editing of country name. Also enter a text string for each country, which is displayed on the QSO screen when a call for that country is entered. Can be used to display beam headings etc. Set DXCC status as deleted or current.LOG ANALYSIS – search your log for QSOs corresponding to specified parameters. Sort the QSOs found, and print a report. Use for awards, contest logs, station housekeeping, and tracking performance. Search criteria are extremely easy to set up. Examples – produce list of countries worked in a year, list of direct QSLs outstanding, list of stations for a given award, list of locator squares worked, contest log etc. The possibilities are almost endless! USER REPORTS – set up your own report format – any combination of fields can be selected, in any order, to produce reports corresponding to your requirements. Output to screen, printer, or file. Using the latter, you can add additional information with your favourite text editor or word process or before printing, which is sometimes necessary for contest logs and awards. STANDARD REPORTS – print tables of country vs. mode vs. worked confirmed status, country vs. band vs. worked/confirmed status, in detail, or totals only. Also, print log to licence requirements. Export your entire log. IOTA DIRECTORY – the official IOTA directory, produced by RSGB. SHACKLOG displays island details including latitude/longitude & island or island group name when an IOTA reference is entered into the IOTA field. A utility is provided to enable updates to be made to the database as new island references are issued. An additional optional IOTA Awards Manager (SAM-I) enables you to easily track progress of your island chasing, gives comprehensive reports, and prints your IOTA Award application! PACKET OPERATION – in addition, with an EGA or better display, you can run packet mode via a standard TNC connected to a serial port, at the same time as any of the above functions. SHACKLOG provides specialised DX Cluster features, allowing, for example, DX spots to be loaded into the QSO fields with a single key stroke! A further key stroke QSYs your rig to the SPOT frequency! (Needs suitable rig and interface). You can even see the DX spots, WWV and Announces if you are not connected – but you must be able to hear the cluster transmissions! Great for SWLs and those with difficult connections to the cluster network. There is a fully configurable cluster alarm system (audible and/or visible), including alarms generated when calls/prefixes in your own tailor-made list are spotted. QSL LABELS – SHACKLOG includes a QSL label print facility. Labels can be printed singly from the QSO screen, or, using the SEARCH facility described above (LOG ANALYSIS), labels can be printed in batches, pre-sorted by call sign all ready to go off to the bureau! SHACKLOG can be configured to print your locator and the DX station’s locator on the QSL label. An optional personal message can also be printed. Label size can be changed within limits. Details of your rig can also be printed on the label if required, as can the QSL Manager. IMPORT – SHACKLOG can import logs from other software packages RIG CONTROL – SHACKLOG supports a wide range of Yaesu, Kenwood and ICOM/TenTec rigs. Support for additional rigs is being added as requested by SHACKLOG users. EASE OF USE – SHACKLOG has been designed to be extremely easy to use. After all, the hobby is amateur radio, not computers! Major features are selected using function keys. All data is validated so that junk cannot get into the log. Helpful messages are displayed in error situations. With SHACKLOG, you concentrate on the QSO, not on the PC! SHACKLOG runs on any IBM compatible PC with a hard disc, DOS 3.3 or later, and 640k or more of RAM. An EGA or higher resolution display is required for packet operation. SHACKLOG will run in a window or full screen under Windows 3.1, Windows for Work Groups 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home. |
